Venom
The not only was the band that invented black metal, but also the one who coined this name, therefore, perhaps not the best, but the main and most important representative of the style. The group began its activities in 1979 and was formed by drummer Abaddon and guitarist Mantas. Originally a quintet, then the formation is stabilized with the above plus a double bassist and vocalist Cronos. Already at the time, his proposal was to make the crudest form of heavy metal and heavy as possible, darting hand also satanic lyrics and obscene. Discovered by businessman Eric Took, the trio debuted on vinyl in 1980 with the single "In League With Satan / Live Like An Angel, Die Like A Devil," which became a mandatory item in the collection of metal fans at the time. The success of the single led to the release of their first LP, which was released in 1981 called "Welcome To Hell". Listening to today, this album features a metal correct, but nothing that deserves further comment. For the time, however, the play was an authentic sound attack, contained the most brutal form of music heard so far. In 1982, it launched the career of the great product Venom's "Black Metal", one of the most influential albums in the history of heavy metal. "In the bargain," was founded a style hitherto nonexistent, black metal, which would influence endless metal bands who found it ideal niche for your musical ideas and lyrical. In the meantime, the Venom kept releasing albums of a certain quality (although, analyzing coldly, did little more than repeat the winning formula he created) and increasing his fame in the underground. Are of this period, the LPs "At War With Satan" (84) and "Possessed" (85). At this point, the black metal style was already consolidated in the underground and became increasingly mysterious and controversial, with bands that took the most extreme limits those Venom treated to delimit. In parallel, Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon began to suffer with musical differences, at that point, were already quite large between them. Then began to decline. The endless lineup changes began when Mantas decided to drop out in 1985. Thereafter, the group was a quartet, also decided to leave Cronos, Mantas returned and left again, the group embarked on other styles etc.. Through it, mediocre LPs were released, such as, "Calm Before The Storm" (87) and "Tear Your Soul Apart" (90), and the set was seen as a joke. But Abbadon never gave up and, in 1996, brought together the classic lineup of the group for a presentation in a big festival in the Netherlands. The response was so good that the three decided to bet again on career and, in 1997, officially returned to active duty, together again.
Satyricon
is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1990 by Exhurtum (Carl-Michael Eide) and Wargod with the name Ezcema. These two members only participated in the recording of a demo before going out, leaving the command to frontman Satyr, who along with drummer Frost, formed the backbone of the band since their first album in 1993.
The band is considered one of the pioneers of the second wave of Norwegian black metal, which emerged in the late 1980s and its members have worked with other bands such as Darkthrone and important Gorgoroth.1 In addition, two members of Darkthrone have attended Satyricon albums, with Nocturno Culto has been a member of the band in 1996.
After releasing several albums in the 1990s, the band's musical style changed in 2002 with the album Volcano. The album features a more commercial sound toward the arena rock and a slower pace, and made the band achieve international success, but received strong criticism from his former fans. The following albums followed a musical style similar to Volcano, with Satyricon evolving into one of the most popular bands of the Norwegian black metal, as well as contribute significantly in increasing the number of foreigners interested in learning the Norwegian language.
Formation (1990-1991) [edit]
In 1990 bassist and drummer Wargod Exhurtum (Carl-Michael Eide) formed the band Eczema. Shortly after, Lemarchand and Satyr joined the band as guitarist and vocalist respectively. Later they decide to change the name Satyricon, inspired by the eponymous film by Frederico Fellini 3 and in 1992 released their first demo, which later received the title of All Evil.4
After the first demo, and Wargod Exhurtum left the band. Exhurtum was kicked out for not having a visual black metal5 while Wargod left the black metal scene to become a UN soldier. Lemarchand Satyr and drummer Frost decided to call as a musician convidado.6 With him, the band recorded a second demo, The Forest is my throne, which was released in 1993. After the recordings, Lemarchand left the band to join Ulver, who were recording their first demo. So, Satyr became accumulate gas singer, guitarist, bassist and keyboardist with Frost on drums as a fixed member.
Dark Medieval Times (1992-1993) [edit]
With the good reception of the two demos, 7 Satyr managed to sign with the label No Fashion Records for recording the first album banda.8 During the recording of the debut, In the Fashion terminated the contract by economic difficulties and the band was forced to finance album sozinha.8
At this time, the band began looking for record labels and stumbled across the Tatra Productions, who offered to sign with eles.8 The Tatra was not a record label dedicated to black metal, and so decided to create a sub-label to release the albums the Satyricon, the Moonfog Productions.8 With Moonfog, Satyricon released in April 1994 their first album, Dark Medieval Times.
The album, which was released during the height of the scene black metal8, was very well received and is considered an essential album in Black Metal norueguês.9 10 11 Why was financed with own resources, the production of the album is bad, and this led several críticas.11 12 The album stands out among the other black metal albums by use of acoustic guitars and flute with the intention of creating an atmosphere medieval.7
The Shadowthrone (1994-1995) [edit]
The band returned to the studio in May to record their second album, it would continue with the medieval style of Dark Medieval Times.13 In September 1994, The Shadowthrone is released. Like its predecessor, the album was well received at the scene black metal.8 9 In The Shadowthrone one notes the presence of more synthesizers. The band had the participation of SS as keyboardist and Samoth of Emperor as baixista.13
With the relative success of Dark Medieval Times, the band got more financial resources for the production of the album, and so The Shadowthrone is significantly better than antecessor.14 Later, in 1995, the demo The Forest is my throne, was relançada8 as a split with Enslaved, named The Forest is my Throne / Yggdrasil. Although the material is identical to the demo, Lemarchand is not mentioned in the credits.
Nemesis Divine (1996-1997) [edit]
In January 1996, the band returned to the studio to record their new album in a period of two months. The short time of the recordings is due to the fact that the material had been written between 1993 and 1995.15 The album features the participation of guitarist and vocalist of Darkthrone, Nocturno Culto, that by the name of Kvedulv, recorded the bass. On April 22, 1996 was released Nemesis Divina.16
Nemesis Divina was the first commercially successful album of the band and in 1996 alone sold over 100,000 cópias.9 The album received very good reviews and is considered not only the best album, but as one of the best black However metal.17 the vocal Satyr received some negative criticism.
The album includes the song Mother North, later elected as "the most successful Black Metal 90s" .9 In the same year, the band recorded and released a music video on VHS for music, being one of the first Black Metal bands to record a video. (The Burzum Dunkelheit VHS released in the same year)
Rebel Extravaganza (1998-2001) [edit]
Before releasing their fourth studio album, the group released the EP Megiddo in 1997, a collection of vinyl with Dark Medieval Times, and The Shadowthrone Nemesis Divina in 1998 and Intermezzo II EP in 1999. An important step was taken with the signing with Nuclear Blast for a worldwide, with the exception of Scandinavia, where the releases are the responsibility of Moonfog Productions.
The band attended two tributes, one to Darkthrone with music Kathaarian Life Code and another for music with Bathory Born for Burning.
In 1999, the band released their 4th studio album, Rebel Extravaganza. The recording of the album had the participation of musicians like Fenriz of Darkthrone, Snorre W. Ruch of Thorns, Anders Odden from Apoptygma Berzerk and Daniel "Død" Olaisen the Blood Red Throne.18
Rebel Extravaganza was the first album to have different reactions to criticism. Musically, the band changed their style a bit, with elements facing the industrial metal passages and some rock and roll.
The band performed several concerts during this time, including at international festivals that made its increasing popularity to attract the media to banda.9 Rebel Extravaganza was the first album to enter the bestseller list in Norway, where it stayed for two weeks and reached to 27 posição.19
The following year the band held a grand tour of Europe and North America. In April and May, shared the stage with Pantera, becoming the first black metal band to tour with a band that had won platinum discs. The choice of the Satyricon as opening band gave more for the fact that Phil Anselmo a big fan of the Norwegian black metal than a musical proximity between bands. In 2001 the band released Roadkill Extravaganza, with scenes of the tour and extra material.
In 2001 the band received an award at the first ceremony Alarmprisen as the best band to vivo.20
The following year, the band released a compilation, Ten Horns, Ten Diadems. The album contains songs from the first four studio albums, with some remasters to compensate for low quality products. The release of the compilation was followed by a tour and several shows at festivals.
Volcano (2002-2005) [edit]
In October 2002 the band released their 5th studio album, Volcano. Musically, the album is very different from previous work, with a style closer to rock and roll. The album spawned resentment among his old fans, who accuse them of selling, but it was the biggest commercial success of the band and spent three weeks in the charts in Norway, coming to stand in the fourth posição.21 22 Volcano won several awards as one of Spellemannprisen " Best Metal Album ", two Alarmprisen for" Best Music "with Fuel for Hatred and" Best Metal album "Oslo and an award for" Best Album ".
The huge success of Volcano intensified the live performances of the band, especially in Europe and especially in Scandinavia, but also in North America, where it played since 2000. However, the U.S. tour had problems since Frost's visa had been denied because he was stuck in the 90s. The replacement was Joey Jordison of Slipknot.
Other complications occurred in the tour of North America in 2004, which was canceled because the two guitarists were arrested after being accused of drugging and raping a woman at a show in Toronto. Both were released after catching bail of $ 50,000 canadenses.23
Now, Diabolical (2006-2007) [edit]
In 2006, Now, Diabolical was released. Before, the band released two singles: "The Pentagram Burns" and "KING". The latter reached the seventh position of the stops norueguesas.24 The album was described as a "contribution logic Volcano", 25 but a little more simples.25
The album was nominated for the Alarmprisen as "Best Metal Album", but the winner was In Sorte Diaboli, Dimmu Borgir.
Like its predecessor, Now, Diabolical sold remarkably well, coming in higher positions on the charts. In Norway, reached the second position, in Finland 28 ° and 47 ° in Suécia.26 In the following months, the band toured for the first time was headlining the Inferno Metal Festival in Oslo in March 2008.27

Previously had already released the single "Black Crown on a Tombstone" and My Skin is Cold EP, which was three weeks in Spanish list of singles, reaching the sixth position, 28 transforming the Satyricon in only black metal band present in a Spanish list . The album followed the same style as its predecessor, Allmusic described the album as "obscure, surprising, creative and controversial" .29 In Norwegian lists reached the fifth position, 26 ° and 30 ° in Sweden in Finland, becoming the first album of the band to make you more successful in Sweden than in Finland. For the first time an album the band entered the French lists, reaching 136 ° posição.30

Lord Belial
was formed in 1992 by Thomas (guitars / vocals), Micke (drums), Anders (bass) & Niclas (guitar). The band's first record was called 'The Art Of Dying "and contained seven tracks.
In 1994, Lord Belial recorded their second demo "Into The Frozen Shadows", a tape better produced. was this demo that started to draw the attention of the public, showing a characteristic style and with its own trends.
In 1994 comes the band's debut disc, "Kiss the Goat", which was recorded in the studio Soundfront, Uppsala, 21/11-30/11, 1994. Unluckily the band's album release had a lot of problems and was delayed, and released on the market in any way with problems in production and distribution. But not all that bad luck was an impediment to the recognition of the band because musically the album was well acclaimed by fans of black metal, due to its originality and well-thought combination of melody and extreme aggression.
In 1996 the Lord belial releases his second album "Enter the Moonlight Gate", which came out in April. The album was recorded at Studio Fredman, Gothenburg. In October of the same year the band made a tour of eastern Germany, was a success for the band. then this disc Lord Belial earned a reputation respected and rightful place in the underground.
In November 1997, the band goes on tour in Europe. In May 1998 Lord Belial makes a tour with the band Satanic Slaughter and continues to compose new songs and work. Logo in August of the same year the band entered the studio to record the third album "Unholy Crusade", which came to munch with a heavy sound grotesque putting the band on a step more self yet. After the album's release in the market in 1999, the band leaves for Europe again touring and growing increasingly tours after the band started the year 2000 writing material for the next album, but there were internal problems in the band and in November guitarist Niclas decided to leave for personal reasons. The band gave a small braking in their activities but soon arranged a substitute for Niclas, was the guitarist Fredrik, a guy who had played with Thomas a few years ago in other musical projects. in May 2001 the Lrd Belial took part in a festival called "2 Heavy 4 You" in Sweden, which was the first show where the young guitarist attended showing all of his ability to adapt the band. Also in 2001, in September Lord Belial entered the studio to record their fourth album named "Angelgrinder", promising to be the most well-produced disc of the band so far, with eight tracks of furious Black Metal. The album was produced by Andy LaRoque and scheduled to come out in March 2002. In April finally comes out the hard Angelgrinder, showing a logic maturing band, bringing new features while maintaining the same line of sound: Black metal ass like the songs Satan Divine, Burn the Kindom of Christ, with music and parties as well arrastadonas massacrantes later as the band Kingdom of Infinite Grief. The album stands as a whole, there is a lot of technique and solos well made and well placed
Darkthrone
is one of the best bands of "true black metal". To know more about their history, back to 1986, in Oslo, Norway: Gylve Nagell, Ivar Enger, and Dag Nilsen played in death metal band Black Death. In 1988, the group, which had letters dark and demonic, changes his name to Darkthrone.
The first demo of the band took the name of "Land Of Frost". After recording the demo, enter the guitar Ted Skjellum. The next demo was named "A New Dimension". Already known in the underground black metal, the group launches its third demo, entitled "Cromlech", which is also the name of a classical music band
By Peaceville Records, Darkthrone recorded in 1991 the album "Soulside Journey", which contains the demo "Cromlech" and some new songs. The album "A Blaze In The Northern Sky" was released in 1992, with members using "corpse paint" and pseudonyms: Gylve is Fenriz Nagell, Ted is Nocturno Culto and Ivar is Zephyrous. Incidentally, in the liner notes of this album is a message to the Brazilians: "Thanks to the Brazilian Deathsquadrones. Keep up the maliciousness!! This album is for the Norwegian Black Metal Mafia." ('Thanks to Death Squads Brazilians. Remain Evil!! This disc is the Norwegian Black Metal Mafia. ").
The next album, 1993, was called "Under a Funeral Moon". In 1994, the next album was called "Transylvanian Hunger", which has references to the known case "vs. Euronymous. Grishnack Count". The controversial album cover had in a sentence morueguês would be translated into English as "Arian True Norwegian Black Metal". With the band being labeled a Nazi, Fenriz in an interview said: "Transilvanian Hunger is above reproach, and who criticizes should be judged by their behavior Jew." Four of the songs that are on this album were written by Varg (Count Grishnack), the murderer of Euronymous. Although this album is the quote "In the name of God, let the churches burn" (In the name of God, let the churches burn ").
In the same year recorded the album "Panzerfaust", but no longer had a label. Satyr (Satyricon frontman) released the album for his label, Moonfog, the album has the participation of Varg Vikernes. After this album, Zephyrous left the band for undisclosed reasons today
In 1995, Darkthrone boiled down to Fenriz and Nocturno Culto. Recorded "Total Death", with the two playing all the instruments. The album features songs more eclectic, out of the usual style of the band, which did not please the fans. The disk letters were written by true Norwegian black metal elite: people like Ihsahn (Emperor), Garm (Ulver), and Satyr (Satyricon). Currently the band is about to release his next album called "Ravishing Grimness".
ROTTING CHRIST
The history of is extensive, spanning more than 20 years. Their survival is a testament not only to the personal conviction of the founding members and his brother Thermis Sakis Tolis, but also the strength of the metal itself.
"Just completed 21 years of our existence as a band and it made us realize how quickly the years are passing," Sakis begins. "It's almost like a dream when I think back to our first day that we could not even afford our own instruments. I remember there were times when we had to resort to illegal activities just to earn enough money to buy the equipment we wanted, so we could sound like our idols. We wanted to sound like Venom and Bathory and Celtic Frost. With a name like Rotting Christ, we were treated like outcasts in our country religiously fundamentalist. Our music was also considered too radical, but anyway, we were always on the front lines, fighting to keep the black metal alive in our territory. Ultimately, we feel honored to have gotten this far. "
Throughout these 21 years, the ROTTING CHRIST experienced a variety of metal genres. Starting the trip as a kind of guise grindcore before moving to wild raw black metal, which he later incorporated Gothic atmospheres in their attack. More recently, they cemented their unique sound, with ethnic instruments.
"Rotting Christ is artistically very excited that a band is always looking for ways not trodden soul," says Sakis. "We have always manifested strange and unique sounds in our music. Being the only composer in the band, I would say that this is an extension of my personality. I can be constantly exploring new avenues in my life, but I always stay true to my roots Metal. "
In 2007, the band's decision to incorporate increasingly decidedly Greek flourishes both musically and lyrically, culminating in one of his most critically acclaimed albums, "Theogonia".
"With 'Theogonia' we just stepped in a different way," says Sakis. "It was a more ethnically influenced we choose to walk, one that we enter further with 'Aealo." Our goal remains the same, however. Our goal is to make music that speaks to the soul, and if we can control it, then we can die with a smile. "
"Aealo" picks up right where "Theogonia" stopped, bombarding the listener with melodic work solos and epic riffs with medium tempo, sometimes supported by a traditional Greek chorus that only increases the inherent emotions present throughout the album.
"'Aealo' refers to the feelings of a warrior during a battle," said Sakis. "These feelings may be intense and varied, such as feelings of anger, fear, sadness and so many others. Listening to the album you'll feel like you're in the middle of a battlefield, fighting his own feelings. This is not an album war. I think it's actually the opposite. When you have finished listening to the album will have a sense of relief. You will feel like you have escaped the emotional trials that only war can create! "
"The album title was decided before I start working on it. Theme I needed to get to work and I thought the topic would be better for this album a struggle, a battle. Life is a battle, man !! Metal is a battle, too. 'Aealo' is a parable about this concept. "
Besides the traditional Greek chorus, Sakis also enlisted the help of friends "Alan" Nemtheanga "Averill" PRIMORDIAL vocalist of Ireland, and "The Magus" frontman Necromantia. Closing the album is also a special and amazing cover of incomparable Diamanda Galas "Orders From the Dead."
"Alan is my brother's metal," says Sakis. "When I was composing the song 'Thou Art Lord,' I thought to myself that his voice would fit well with the atmosphere of the music. So I decided to ask him about it and he gladly accepted. Working with Alan is indeed always a pleasure. And yes, this is the first time that people will be able to hear an English accent in the music of Rotting Christ! Alan is Celtic and I Greek. Both ethnic groups had similar idiosyncrasies to the races in the past. I I felt there was definitely a place for something Celtic in this album. "
"As to Diamanda, I was greatly honored to know that the lady of darkness had approved that we played his song, 'Orders From the Dead', especially because it allowed me to write additional music for this song, of course, belongs to her. The experience was a personal highlight for me as a composer. This particular song comes from the Greek genocide (1914-23) and it fits very well with the atmosphere of the entire disk. I can not think of a better end to an album that a curse, a curse that comes from the dead. "

Emperor
is a Norwegian black metal band symphonic formed in 1991 by vocalist and guitarist Ihsahn Samoth and drummer in Notodden, Telemark in Norway.
Along with Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone and other bands, the Emperor was part of the inner circle. During its first years, the band has undergone several changes in its formation, with Ihsahn and Samoth as the only constant members. But after the arrival of drummer Trym Torson in 1996, the formation remained stable until the band split in 2001. In 2006, the band reunited for a series of shows until the end of 2007, when they again separate.
Throughout his career, the band has released four studio albums and sold over 500,000 copies worldwide.
Early years [edit]
The Emperor was founded in 1991 by Samoth and Ihsahn. The musicians met at a convention teenage rock. The two began playing together under various names: first Dark Device, then Xerasia Embryonic and last until founding the known band Thou Shalt Suffer. After that, Samoth began to write songs to parallel Thou Shalt Suffer and together with Ihsahn and Mortiis bassist, formed a new band. The union of these three musicians, led the first formation of the Emperor, Ihsahn as a guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist, Samoth on drums and Mortiis as bassist. After a short time together, the band released a demo Wrath of the Tyrant, which combines a raw Black Metal with the inclusion of keyboard and got a very positive feedback on the Norwegian Black Metal scene. The demo soon attracted the attention of some labels and then Wrath of the Tyrant was released on cassette with a new cover. Was the Candlelight Records who signed the first contract the Emperor. Concurrently, Bård Faust joined the band as drummer and Samoth was to the guitar.
In summer 1992, a series of events occurred in the Norwegian Black Metal scene. Samoth, along with several other members of the inner circle, burned several old churches in Noruega.1 Also in 1992, Bård Faust was Lillehammer, and the newly built Olympic Park, a gay man named Magne Andreassen approached and invited to take a walk in forest. Faust agreed, and once in the forest, the man began to make strong sexual advances towards him. Faust stabbed to death and kicked his head after making sure I was morto.1 2 On the same day of the murder, was Faust with Euronymous of Mayhem and Varg Vikernes of Burzum to burn a church in Holmenkollen in Oslo.
In May 1993, the band released the EP Emperor, which was re-released next month as a split EP with the Hordanes Land of the Enslaved. Mortiis left the band shortly after recording the EP to form his solo project.
After the departure of Mortiis, the band recruited bassist Ildjarn for some shows together with the British band Cradle of Filth, and after this tour, the band left the Corpse paint, stating that he was becoming a trend and losing its original meaning and symbolism.
In July 1993, the Emperor began the recording of their first studio album in Grieghallen in Bergen.
In The Nightside Eclipse and imprisonment of members [edit]
In 1994, Samoth was sentenced to 16 months in prison for burning churches along with Varg Vikernes. The burning of Skjold Church in Vindafjord was committed during a break in the recording of the EP Aske Burzum. Faust was also arrested for burning churches and killing committed in Lillehammer in 1992 and sentenced to 14 years in prison. Tchort bassist who entered in 1993, was also arrested and sentenced to six months in prison for assault and assaulting several people.
In the same year these turbulent events, In The Nightside Eclipse was released, giving the Emperor widespread acclaim and a large fan base.
The back [edit]
After a short downtime, the band returns after probation achieved by Samoth. The bassist Alver, the Dødheimsgard, joined the band in 1995 and Trym Torson, the Enslaved, assumes the battery in 1996. With both, the band released the EP in 1996 Reverence.
In late 1996, the band entered the studio again to record Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk. Featuring a much more progressive sound than the previous albums, Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk won best album of the year in several metal magazines around the world, as the British Terrorizer and U.S. Metal Maniacs.
As trio [edit]
Logo
With the departure of Alver in 1998, the band continued their work as a trio, with Ihsahn now accumulating function bassist. The band recorded their third album, IX Equilibrium and toured Europe and the United States. It was around 2000 Samoth and Trym Torson began to steer more to the Death Metal, while Ihsahn poured musically aside more artistic and progressive metal, as demonstrated in his side project, Peccatum. Thus, in 2001, with the very obvious musical differences, the Emperor decided to split after the release of their latest album, Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise, composed entirely Ihsahn.
In a statement on the group's demise, they said they had done everything they wanted with the Emperor and did not want the title of the band that does not know when to stop.
Upon completion, was released a compilation album called Scattered Ashes: A Decade of Emperial Wrath, double CD with covers of other bands, and their music more important.
Samoth and Trym continued playing together in the band of black / death metal Zyklon, while Ihsahn is beside his wife Ihriel, focused on design Peccatum, plus a solo project called The Adversary CD which was released in 2006.
Meeting [edit]
In 2005, the band reunited to tour, saying he wanted to do shows for the fans, since there was a farewell tour for your order. For these concerts the band has the participation of Secthdaemon on bass and Einar on keyboards. In 1992 signed with Fashion Records and released their first studio album Endless Dark. Andreas Axelsson left the band, and drummer Joakim Gothberg who was in charge of vocals and drums. On guitar was added another guitarist Magnus "I" Andersson.
The French label Osmose Productions signed the band in 1993. In October the same year since it released the second album Those of the Unlight. The seal of osmosis allows them to go on tour in 1994 with Immortal across europa.Após the release of this album the drummer while vocalist Joakim Gothberg becomes just the vocalist and Friedrik Andersson takes the battery and second guitarist "I" leaves the band.
Marduk in Paris, France.
As a result they launch in late 1994, the third album, Opus Nocturne.
In 1995 before the growing success of the group, the first demo Fuck Me Jesus is reissued on CD with the original cover that is a problem with censorship. The CD was banned in some countries.
Joakim leaves the group and is replaced by Legion. In June 1996 released their fourth album Heaven Shall Burn ... When We Are Gathered, a masterpiece for many Black Metal fans and the beginning of a growing success.
Then they released in late 1996 Glorification, a mini-CD, then in 1997, they released Live in Germania, written during a tour in Germany.
In 1998, when bands like Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir are at their peak and the black metal starts to get a little more recognition for the general public, Marduk took the word and made an album focused on violent hatred and devoid of any Keyboard: Nightwing, a CD divided into two parts, who heard the first thought impossible that the second part was even further in terms of aggression, was launched in 1999 Panzer Division Marduk perhaps one of the most brutal albums of all time and then begin yet another tour with a memorable performance at La Loco, Paris.
The French tour was used for the production of the DVD double live a great successor to Live in Germania, called Infernal Eternal, producing this new work also marks the end between Marduk Osmose Productions and "various reasons". From there Morgan creates his own music label, Bloddawn Productions, was then released the double DVD Infernal Eternal in 2001 and soon after the new studio album, La Grande Danse Macabre.
In 2002, the group entered the new drummer Emil Dragutinovic, replacing Fredrik Andersson who left for family reasons. Dragutinovic is an excellent drummer, much faster than its predecessor.
Vocalist Mortuus Metalmania in 2008.
Was then produced the new album World Funeral, an album that marks a new style for the group, the sound is clean and the music more brutal than the last work La Grande Danse Macabre, this album also marks the departure of charismatic vocalist Legion, which Morgan thanked all this experience in the group, bassist B.War also withdrew from the group.
Legion began his new band, known today as Devian.
In 2004, it is the beginning of a new era with his ninth album Plague Angel. "I" the former guitarist returns to the band taking down and a new singer: Mortuus (Arioch).
In December 2004 he was released Deathmarch with four tracks, a different version of Steel Inferno (Present in Plague Angel) and Tod and unprecedented Vernichtung and two repetitions The Hangman of Prague and Throne of Rats.
In January 2007 the drummer Emil Dragutinovic left the band after recording the album Rom 5:12, the group was created by Devian Legion, this album confirms the return to a slow black metal, though most of the songs are still fast as in other albums.
The new drummer who joined the band called Lars Broddesson.
Tiamat
The roots of Tiamat in Treblinka are a Swedish band formed in 1987. (The name comes from a town Treblinka in Poland where the Nazis set up the first concentration camp to kill Jews in gas chambers). After a few demos the band was about to release his first album Sumerian Cry when they had to hastily change the band name to Tiamat.
Sumerian Cry, released by a small English label (CMFT), closely resembles the sound of his contemporaries Stockholm:
A Death metal speed varied, inspired in both Slayer and in Autopsy.
Some slow passages, reminiscent of Black Sabbath.
And timbre "chainsaw" guitar, which was a hallmark of Sunlight TUDIES.
With a little help from friends Unleashed, the group moves to Century Media and launches The Astral Sleep. Right away we see that the second album sound changes are radical. The sound is now much pulled Metallica and Celtic Frost. Nor do we see the blast beats and satanic themes of yore. We now also the constant presence of guitars and keyboards, giving a more intimate atmosphere and "sophisticated" than it was before pure bile and aggression.
Clouds follows the same path, producing better and more mature songs. A year after launch The Sleeping Beauty, an EP recorded live in Tel-Aviv (Israel).
The early peak of his career was Wildhoney, and for a moment was the focus of Century Media (privilege that today belongs to Lacuna Coil). At this time the band toured Europe with Type O Negative, the big name American Gothic Metal. In 1995 it was time they open the tour of Black Sabbath and Motörhead in the United States1.
Mayhem
Mayhem was formed in Norway in 1984. The founders were Øystein Aarseth (Euronymous, although his first band is the pseudonym Destructor - guitar), Jorn Stubberud (Necrobutcher - low), and Kjetil Manheim (Manheim - drums). The name came from Mayhem 'Mayhem With Mercy', in homage to the creators of BlackMetal, Venom. They recorded their first demo, 'Pure Fucking Armageddon' in 1986, and only 1000 copies were released. The demo is extremely brutal, though their quality is low. In the fall of that year, the Mayhem recruited its first real singer, Sven Erik Kristiansen (Maniac). Then in winter 1987 Mayhem entered the studio to record the legendary demo 'Deathcrush'. This demo gave the Mayhem a base of loyal fans and they really worshiped the band. The demo was later relaunched as a mini LP, the label Deathlike Silence, owned by Euronymous.
Shortly after the release of the mini LP, Manheim and Maniac left the band. The Mayhem recruited a new vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin (Dead vocalist of cult Swedish band Morbid), and a new drummer, Jan Axel Von Blomberg From (Vlamir). The band recorded two songs for a compilation of CBR called 'Projections Of the Stained Mind'. The songs were 'Freezing Moon' and 'Carnage'. The band then made an excursion by Turkey and East Germany. It was this tour that Mayhem did the biggest shows of its history, if not the biggest in the city of Leipzig. The concert was later released on the album 'Live in Leipzig'.
In April 1991 Dead committed suicide. Soon after the fact Necrobutcher left the band. Occultus joined the band as bass / vocals to replace Dead and Necrobutcher, but not for long. Euronymous brought Varg Vikernes (Count Grishnackh the one man band, Burzum) to play bass, and Attila Csihar (Tormentor Hungarian vocalist) on vocals. Blackthorn (band Thorns) also joined for a short time, to be the second guitarist, but left soon after. This lineup recorded the long awaited first full-albumin Mayhem "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'. After the album was recorded, things started to go wrong between Euronymous and Count Grishnackh. The difficulties between the two climbed the highest level, and finished with Grishnack killing Euronymous stabbing. The story of the murder of Euronymous, Norwegian BlackMetal and the scene at the beginning of the 90s has been said from time to time, and it has been a great legend tournou inclusive.
So Hellhammer was the only member to remain. The below 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas' had been allegedly rewritten by Hellhammer respect for Euronymous. In fact this is NOT true, and bass you hear in De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, was really touched by Count Grishnackh. This was considered as the final memory Mayhem.
The Mayhem this time gained a huge cult following. The chaos that caused the Black Metal scene in Norway in the early 90s caused repercussions around the world and gained global attention. Unfortunately fans were left with only the recording of Mayhem during its existence, and poor quality of pirated albums. They had become one of the greatest, most legendary and infamous underground metal bands. Dead and Euronymous are gone but will never be forgotten.
In 1995, Hellhammer called for some tests and Necrobutcher Maniac. He wanted to reform the Mayhem. They recruited a guitarist already known Necrobutcher, Rune Erickson (Blasphemer). Now they were full band. Have agreed that if the feeling was found again, the Mayhem rise again. Fortunately, the feeling was there more than ever. In 1997 they recorded the mini LP 'Wolfs Lair Abyss', and proved that they could actually continue the legacy of Mayhem. They made a tour of Europe, and a small tour in the United States and Mexico. In November 1998 the band recorded the live album "Mediolanum Capta Est 'in Milan, Italy. Mayhem was definitely back.
The band released a new album entitled 'Grand Declaration of War' in 2000. It is an album completely different from what had been released by the band until then. It is the vision of Mayhem BlackMetal in the new millennium. Following the album's release, came the first major tour in the United States was continued in Europe too. An official video of a performance of Marseille, France was launched in February, 2001. The video was released as DVD & VHS. Following the release of the video, Mayhem released two more albums live. The first was titled European Legions and has 7 live tracks recorded on excursion Grand Declaration of War, and 5 pre-production. The second live album was titled U. S. Legions and features 7 tracks live.
The Mayhem has held for over 15 years and are still following very strong, maintaining its legacy of Pure Fucking Armageddon!
Bathory
The name comes from a Bathory Countess Bathory named Elizabeth, born in 1560, who lived in a castle in Hungary. She had the strange custom of bathing in the blood of virgins because she believed to be the secret of rejuvenation. After several suspicions, the king of Hungary orders to invade the castle and the soldiers found several dead girls and other prey. Elizabeth is judged (the transcript of his trial still exists in Hungary) and prey on lonely while his accomplices are burned alive.
There are historical evidence that the governor of the province where Elizabeth lived have invented stories about her to push her to pay the tax debt to him. The pretext was the "witch hunt" promoted by the Inquisition of the Catholic Church and the moralists of the time. Elizabeth Bathory was mainly responsible for the beginning of the vampire legend.
Considered as one of the first works of death metal, with its macabre stories, Quorthon account years after his main inspiration came from the horror comic magazine "Chock" (similar to "Tales From the Crypt") and says ironically that is not the result of reading "no Bible Black".
On February 84 Bathory participates in the compilation "Scandinavian Metal Attack" with the songs "Sacrifice" and "Return of the Darkness and Evil." Many people liked and label correspondence received with acclaim, leading Bathory to be invited to record an album. Eight months later, in October, the band released "Bathory".
Recorded and mixed in Sweden in just three days, the album brings a curiosity, the cover was to be black and gold, but as the result would be very expensive, the logo was printed on white. Only 700 cases with yellow goat, known as "The Yellow Goat", were made. The rarity today can be found for between $ 200 and $ 400.
"Bathory" is a classic black metal album, with fast riffs and, according to the Quorthon, had the effect of "Black Sabbath lyrics and sound intensity of Motörhead." In early 85, the band makes another contribution, now in "Scandinavian Metal Attack II", with the tracks "Hades" and "War" from the newly released album.
On May 85 is released the album "The Return", also recorded in Sweden. The song "Born for Burning" is dedicated to a "witch" named Marrigje Ariens, born in 1521 and burned by the Inquisition in 1591 in the Netherlands. The letters and compositions that album still black metal, but it is clear that more creativity and originality in earlier work despite the short time between the two.
The participation of Bathory in "Speed Kills 2" with the track "Possessed" album "The Return" marks the year of 86. On May 87 the band released "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" who brings a photo of the Stockholm Opera House on the cover. Again the style is fast black metal, but the letters now have the growing war theme. The song "Woman of Dark Desires" is dedicated to the memory of one's own Elizabeth Bathory (1560-1640) and "Of Doom" fans. During composition, Quorthon says only have listened to classical music, to inspire and create new arrangements, which may have brought the album a little more melancholy and coldness to songs.
The following year Bathory participates with Death, Onslaught and Agent Steel, among others, "Speed Kills 3" with the band "Of Doom" from the previous album. Still 88 in October, is released "Blood Fire Death" with a lot of mystery. Nothing is known about Kothaar (bassist) and Vvornth (drummer) who participate in this album. Everything was kept secret and only knows that they are Swedish.
The letters now predominantly speak of wars and battles of the "Viking Age" of European history and mythology. The album cover is a painting by Peter Nicolai Arbo 1872 called "Asganrdsteien" and the photograph of the band is Pelle Matteus and the only picture of them on all of Bathory's albums.
89 participate in "Speed Kills 4", this time a double album, which also featured Exodus, Nuclear Assault, Possessed, Dark Angel and Acid Reign. The chosen track was "For All Those Who Died" from "Blood Fire Death".
The Bathory then signs with Noise Records in early 90 (Running Wild, Celtic Frost, Kreator, Voivod, Helloween, Destruction, Gamma Ray and Hellhammer) and in April of the same year "Hammerheart" is released. The production of the mysterious Boss, would return to appear in forthcoming work of the band, and the cover is a picture of Sir Frank Dicksee, called "The Viking's Last Journey", courtesy of Manchester City Art Gallery.
The style of Bathory follows and is becoming slower and totally dedicated to the Viking theme. Almost all the songs are long and heavy and the lyrics speak mainly of the lives of warriors and battles. "Hammerheart" also marks the production of the first and so far only video clip of the band, with the band "One Rode to Asa Bay".
In June of the following year the band released "Twilight of the Gods" which brings sound even slower, heavy and depressing than the previous album. The theme remains viking and has visible influence of classical music. The track "Hammerheart", including classical music is written by Gustav Holst Quorthon worked as writing a letter.
The covers of Bathory's albums have always been very beautiful, but this deserves. On the back cover there is a stretch of Friedrich Nietzsche (German philosopher) 1871 that talks about the modern age when people realize that there is no God, that nothing can save them, and it will be a time of great fear for not having where support. Is the era of the "twilight of the gods" (gods of decay), which inspired the album name.
This was to be the last work of Bathory. Quorthon later admits to have tired of Bathory and entered into crisis because fans were asking for the project did not end. In 91, the compilation "Touch of Death" takes the track "Blood And Iron" from the album "Twilight Of The Gods" and opens the way for the avalanche of work remastered, revamped, reorganized and reheated the Bathory was coming next. In October of the following year is the time of compilation "Jubileum Volume I" bring fifteen tracks in over an hour of music. Among them are "Rider at the Gate of Dawn" (recorded in 87), "Crawl to your Cross" (89), "Sacrifice" (which came out in the compilation "Scandinavian Metal Attack", 84) and "You Do not Move Me (I Do not Give a Fuck) "which was not released on album.
"Jubileum Volume II" comes out in May of the following year containing twelve tracks. Some of them are "The Return Of The Darkness And Evil" (from the compilation "Scandinavian Metal Attack"), and "Burnin 'Leather" (recorded in 87) and "Die In Fire" (at 83) that had not been released in any album.
After three years without recording, Quorthon released two albums with approximately six months apart. The songs of "Requiem", October 94, were written in two weeks and bring a different sound of the last two albums despite being still fast, and letters that come back to deal with the occult. "Octagon", June 95, changes significantly and becomes more thrash than the previous one, with a touch of industrial. Vocals are more raw and not so muffled, and the lyrics change their focus to issues of society such as war, violence and intolerance.
The next album, "Blood on Ice", was released on April 96 and marks a return to the Viking metal, slower. The letters are shaped saga and tell the story of a boy, the only survivor of a village that was attacked, who seeks revenge. The inspiration came from Conan - The Barbarian and work "Götterdämmerung" Wagner.
Quorthon was always fond by the work of Wagner and tried to read the same things that he came to know where the inspiration. Also, read the stories of Conan since kid and says "hardcore fan of history," especially the Viking era in European history which, he says, is not well known outside Europe and which people have a misconception, very Hollywood's fault. He began studying German and Scandinavian mythology to write the saga of "Blood on Ice" in 87, for personal enjoyment only, and had not thought of rhymes and music. Since that time, Quorthon ever wanted to change the musical style of Bathory, but the press and fans still called them "satanic band from Sweden" and, he says, that the band left confused. They also received letters that moment the world wondering if it was true that they "ate babies, took blood angels and lived in caves satanic".
The album was recorded after "Blood Fire Death" but never released until Quorthon found it and worked on it for a month and a half. He did mention a change of direction in the early 90s and received several letters from fans asking him to perform the same project. Years later, he says he felt like he was getting Bathory again and he had grown tired of record albums "full of cries of Satan and stuff."
Still 96 compilation "Black Mark Attack" takes the track "The Sword", the "Blood On Ice". And 97 "A Black Mark Tribute" compilation of bands Seal Black Mark doing covers of their favorite bands, brings Bathory with "Ace Of Spades" Motörhead and Quorthon does a cover of "God Save The Queen" from Fri Pistols . "A Black Mark Tribute Vol II" comes out in 98 with Bathory doing cover of "War Pigs" and the Sabbath with Quorthon "Sleeping" by the Beatles.
The Bathory is very curious details in their work and certainly a thinker who has always tried to improve and do what he liked. The Bathory was marked by numerous lineup changes and style, but it is respected by fans of black and called "viking metal" by the quality of the compositions.
Quorthon also produced two solo albums. The first, "Quorthon - Album", was released in 94. The second, "Quorthon - Purity of Essence" in 97. In it, Quorthon wrote and recorded all the instruments, percussion, effects and made the whole production. Rex Luger, who had been engineer "Blood on Ice" is the only keyboard on the track "One Of Those Days".
In early 2004, after some time without releasing new albums with Bathory, Quorthon is found dead at forty, in the apartment where he lived in Stockholm. Little is known, in fact, about what happened, but rest assured that the metal lost one of its most important pieces is enough that fans can feel since his eternal missing.
